Five major South Korean exchanges transferred 276.25 billion Korean won in stablecoins overseas

According to CoinMeta, and as reported by Yonhap News, in June 2026, five major South Korean won-based cryptocurrency exchanges – upbit, bithumb, coinone, korbit, and gopax – transferred 2.7625 trillion won in stablecoins to overseas exchanges and received 2.2022 trillion won in return, resulting in a net outflow of 560.3 billion won (approximately 367 million US dollars), which is equivalent to 77.6% of the net amount South Korean investors bought overseas stocks that month. Since January 2025, South Korean stablecoins have been flowing overseas to exchanges for 18 consecutive months. The related funds are mainly used for cryptocurrency and stock derivatives provided by overseas platforms, as well as RWA, DeFi, and staking services.
