The US SEC Re-examines NASDAQ's Decision to List Bitcoin Options

According to CoinMeta, Wu said that the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has accepted a reconsideration application submitted by CME Group (CME), and will re-examine its previous decision to approve the listing of cash-settled Bitcoin index options on NASDAQ. On May 22, the SEC approved the relevant rule changes through an authorization process, but after objections were raised in June, the approval was automatically suspended. The SEC believes that Bitcoin is a commodity, and options directly linked to its price should be regulated by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), not by the SEC. If this view is supported, NASDAQ may need to submit a new application under the CFTC framework or adjust the product structure.
