According to CoinMeta, the AI fund experienced a huge return of 439% within half a year before facing setbacks. Citadel took over most of the stock positions. The fund was managed by Leopold Aschenbrenner, a 24-year-old researcher from OpenAI. Before trading, it held approximately $16 billion in publicly traded stocks, with a heavy focus on companies in the AI industry chain such as SK Hynix, CoreWeave, and Nebius. After the market turned around, the fund chose to reduce its positions to eliminate leverage and eventually cleared all its publicly traded stocks. Leopold once agreed to sell equity worth about $3.5 billion in Anthropic, but withdrew the transaction due to financial constraints, ultimately preserving the equity in unlisted companies like Anthropic.
