According to CoinMeta, BNB Chain announced on August 1st that it was filing a legal lawsuit against a former employee, accusing them of unauthorized retention of mnemonic phrases and using the related wallet addresses to conduct new prank coin transactions. BNB Chain stated that they are cooperating with relevant authorities, but did not disclose the identity of the employee, the jurisdiction, the institution, or the court. The wallet was initially created for the company's video tutorials to demonstrate how to generate tokens. BNB Chain denied creating, authorizing, promoting, or participating in this new token, and claimed that subsequent use of the wallet address was an independent action and that the token had nothing to do with the ecosystem. The organization has not disclosed whether they are seeking asset recovery, compensation, or criminal charges. The on-chain analysis account Lookonchain associated this transaction with a token named Asteroid Shiba, stating that four newly created wallets spent about $10,000 to purchase 796.7 million tokens, which accounts for 79.67% of the claimed billion-token supply. These wallets then sold 718.8 million Asteroid tokens at a price of $1,103 each, estimated to result in a profit of about $628,000. BNB Chain has not yet announced any freezes, recoveries, or repayments of funds.
