According to CoinMeta, the Coldcard hacker attack led to a surge in Bitcoin transactions, with the speed of fund transfers by small Bitcoin holders reaching its fastest since the FTX collapse. CryptoQuant data shows that on Friday, transactions amounting to less than 1 BTC reached 39,600 BTC, setting a new record for the highest daily transaction volume since November 2022. This activity reflects defensive capital flows rather than widespread accumulation. A Coldcard firmware flaw exposed weaknesses in the mnemonic phrase generation process for multiple models. On Sunday, Bitcoin traded near $63,124, and users are assessing the risks associated with self-storing their assets. Galaxy Research identified three waves of attacks targeting addresses generated by Coldcard, with estimated losses approaching 88.6 million US dollars. Coinkite issued security recommendations on July 30, reminding users to update their firmware to prevent insecure mnemonic phrase generation.
