According to CoinMeta, pilots of WestJet Airlines went on strike on Sunday due to the breakdown of negotiations with Canada's second-largest airline, resulting in the cancellation of flights. According to the airline's data, approximately 250,000 passengers had their flights canceled during the three-day holiday in Canada, and the number of affected passengers will depend on how long the strike lasts. WestJet stated on Sunday that 615 flights had been cancelled. The flight crew union demands compensation for all working hours from check-in to off-duty time, not just the time when the aircraft are in flight. The union notified WestJet 72 hours in advance on Thursday, indicating that they might go on strike if no agreement could be reached through negotiations. WestJet subsequently issued a blockade notice. Union president Aalia Hussein said, "We are striking because we believe we deserve better treatment, and we are ready to return to the negotiating table to resolve the issue."
