According to CoinMeta, the National Examinations Board of Kenya has launched a national electronic verification system through local technology providers, anchoring over 15 million academic records on the blockchain to replace the slow process of checking paper certificates. The initial rollout of this system covers historical examination records from 1989 and includes the certificates of nearly 1 million candidates who took the 2025 Kenyan secondary school education certificate exams. Students can access and download their certificates online, and employers, universities, and other institutions can also verify these certificates online. The board plans to expand the system to cover approximately 35 million records, including primary and secondary school qualifications, advanced diplomas, and government teacher training certifications. The use of blockchain will help reduce certificate forgery and the use of fake verification websites.
