According to CoinMeta, a review of the public expenditure records of the U.S. House of Representatives by CNBC revealed that in the year ending March 31, 2026, identifiable expenditures on AI tools amounted to at least $113,700. Among these, ChatGPT received $100,600, with a total of 798 transactions, accounting for 88% of the total amount. Claude came in second, receiving only $13,200 across 37 transactions. ChatGPT has been used in at least 71 members' offices, which is about one-sixth of the total number of House offices. Staff members use it to summarize bills, write memos, prepare materials for hearings, respond to voters, and draft social media content.
