South Korea's central bank resumes gold purchases for the first time in 13 years
2026-08-05 06:49:46
According to CoinMeta, the Bank of Korea announced that it will restart gold purchases after a 13-year hiatus, although on a smaller scale. This move is symbolic and reflects the Bank of Korea's re-evaluation of its reserve strategy amid rising geopolitical risks. It is reported that South Korea's annual gold production is about 40 to 45 tons, of which only 4 to 5 tons are typically used for export. The central bank's purchase plan will mainly rely on domestic supply. Although the scale of this purchase is relatively small, this decision marks the Bank of Korea's re-entry into the market and may have a certain impact on global gold demand.
