Ethereum EIP-8361 Proposal to Gradually Reduce Staking Rewards
2026-08-05 22:26:41
According to CoinMeta, six Ethereum researchers submitted a proposal on August 4th ( EIP-8361 ) aimed at gradually reducing the staking rewards paid to validators in order to prevent the network’s staking ratio from exceeding 50% of the circulating Ether. The proposal was submitted two days before the next upgrade deadline and has already sparked disagreements among developers. Currently, about 33% of Ethereum is in a staked state, which is close to 40 million coins. According to this proposal, the annual yield will decrease from around 2.6% to 1.1%. The specific mechanism of the proposal is that as the staking ratio rises, the protocol will gradually deduct and destroy a portion of each validator’s consensus rewards.
