Trump: The Hormuz Strait agreement will affect the oil market
2026-08-06 07:09:53
According to CoinMeta, Trump stated that any agreement that is seen as granting Iran control over the Strait of Hormuz could be interpreted by the oil market as a mixed signal, which would alleviate the risk of immediate war while also introducing new risks of fees and transit terms. The report mentions that regional sources oppose Trump's claims of an impending agreement and suggest that the market should approach the renewed narrative with caution, rather than viewing it as a solution. Iran hopes to charge a fee of 5% to 7% on goods passing through the Strait of Hormuz, which is much higher than the approximately 3% discussed by Oman. If the unresolved control issues are confirmed, they could lead to renewed volatility.
