According to CoinMeta, the latest report from Chainalysis indicates that violent robberies (“wrench attack”) targeting cryptocurrency holders in the first half of 2026 have resulted in losses of over $30 million. At the current rate, the total for the year could exceed the record of $58 million set in 2025. The report points out that France has become a hot spot for such attacks, partly due to a data breach involving high-net-worth crypto investors by French tax authorities, which has expanded the range of criminals’ targets. Chainalysis also notes that these attacks are increasingly targeting the families of the victims, and the proportion of burglaries and kidnappings is on the rise.
