According to CoinMeta, Bybit announced today that it has filed a civil lawsuit in the United States District Court for the Federal District of Columbia against North Korea (DPRK), its General Reconnaissance Bureau (RGB), and Lazarus Group, to hold these entities legally responsible for the large-scale cyberattack launched against Bybit in February 2025. Bybit has successfully applied to the court for a preliminary injunction, freezing identified stolen digital assets held or transferred by unidentified individuals and entities (i.e., the defendants ".John Doe"). In approving the preliminary temporary restraining order, the court described this incident as "one of the largest cryptocurrency theft cases in history" and determined that Bybit "has a likelihood of winning" in the case. To date, Bybit has successfully recovered approximately $48.4 million in stolen assets and frozen about $30.5 million in related assets, which are distributed across more than 28 exchanges and custodian institutions. Bybit emphasized that it will continue to invest in advanced blockchain tracking technologies, utilize all available legal means to combat national-level hacker organizations, and work towards establishing a more resilient digital asset ecosystem.
