The EU plans to revise the MiCA regulations in 2027 to counter the push of US stablecoins

According to CoinMeta, EU officials are preparing to revise the region's crypto framework in 2027 to address the existing institutional shortcomings exposed by foreign stablecoin restrictions and the faster rule-making in the United States. According to EU diplomats, policymakers expect to reopen the crypto asset regulation market in 2027. This revision will examine how MiCA treats stablecoins issued outside of the EU. Current requirements have prevented many foreign issuers from obtaining authorization, limiting their access to regulated exchanges in the region. The European Commission launched a consultation on MiCA on May 20 to determine whether the framework is still applicable after its initial implementation, and the deadline for the consultation has been extended to September 30, inviting crypto issuers, service providers, regulatory agencies, central banks, and finance ministries to respond.
