According to CoinMeta, as reported by criptonoticias, a Venezuelan lawyer used SHA-256 and OpenTimestamps in a civil lawsuit to anchor the prosecution documents to the Bitcoin network in order to prove the documents' existence time, integrity, and that they had not been tampered with. The lawyer's side stated that this might be the first known case where the initial prosecution documents of a lawsuit are anchored to the Bitcoin network in this manner. The actual operation did not involve writing the complete judicial documents into Bitcoin, but rather recording their encrypted hash and timestamp.
