According to CoinMeta, the Central Bank of Brazil has ordered virtual asset service providers to freeze crypto transfers exceeding $10,000 for up to 24 hours, with the measure set to take effect on January 1, 2027. This new anti-fraud measure is aimed at addressing the growing use of virtual assets, including stablecoins, and preventing financial fraud funds from quickly leaving Brazil or entering users' own wallets. Under the new regulations, service providers must hold the assets for 24 hours before processing legitimate transfers and must inform customers that the transfers are temporarily frozen. This measure is part of an expansion of Brazil's regulatory framework, designed to strengthen supervision over virtual asset services.
