According to CoinMeta, in 2026 the crypto industry is experiencing a large-scale reshuffle similar to the internet bubble. Over 100 projects have closed down, filed for bankruptcy, or ceased operations permanently, and this trend is accelerating. In just one week at the end of July, four major companies announced their closure or bankruptcy applications: BitMEX, BitMart, Movement Labs, and Storj Labs. This wave of exits has affected all aspects of the industry, including exchanges, wallets, DeFi lending protocols, NFT markets, and Layer-1 blockchains. Even the entire Polkadot parallel chain Moonbeam was permanently shut down on July 31, leaving users who did not transfer their assets in time unable to access their funds.
