According to CoinMeta, and as reported by Epoch Times, John Thune, the leader of the majority party in the U.S. Senate, brought the Clear Act to the Senate for a vote on Saturday, with plans to conduct the voting after lawmakers conclude their August recess. The bill aims to establish a regulatory framework for federal cryptocurrencies and digital assets, clarify regulatory methods and the division of powers among various federal agencies, and distinguish between securities and commodities. Supporters believe that this move will replace the previous "enforcement-based regulation" approach and provide clearer rules for the industry. The bill requires digital asset issuances and sales to provide public disclosures to investors and creates new registration exemptions SEC, allowing eligible projects to raise funds. The bill will also provide legal certainty for digital assets that have been determined not to be securities. Cynthia Lummis, the chair of the Senate Banking, Digital Assets, and Innovation Subcommittee, expressed her support for the bill, calling it an important step in ensuring that the United States remains a leader in the field of digital assets.
