Westpac: Flexible Q2 CPI provides room for RBA to maintain a 4.35% interest rate
2026-08-10 10:23:49
According to CoinMeta, Westpac indicates that the soft second-quarter consumer price index ( CPI ) provides room for the Reserve Bank of Australia ( RBA ) to maintain its interest rate at 4.35%. Both Westpac and the Commonwealth Bank of Australia ( CBA ) expect that RBA will decide to keep interest rates unchanged at the upcoming meeting, believing that this will send a positive signal for the stability of the Australian dollar. Westpac notes that the CPI in the second quarter was lower than expected, and the transmission effect of energy costs has not persisted recently, indicating that inflation risks have eased. The two banks expect that, despite keeping interest rates unchanged, RBA will still maintain a hawkish tone to address future data changes.
