Coinsbuy Wallet Experiences Theft of $7.9 Million in Ethereum and Tron Funds

According to CoinMeta, as reported by blockchain research firm Specter, an encrypted payment wallet managed by Coinsbuy was stolen around 13:00 on August 9th at UTC. More than 7.9 million US dollars worth of Ethereum and Tron assets were lost. The attackers then began to transfer some of the stolen funds to the privacy coin Monero through exchanges. PeckShield stated that the wallet "may have lost" approximately 7.9 million US dollars and traced part of the illicit funds flowing through platforms such as ChangeNow, FixedFloat, and BingX. Security information sources from Certik also independently confirmed the same loss estimate and transaction routes. Specter identified two Ethereum addresses and one Tron address as the destinations of the theft. This cross-chain transfer indicates that the attackers obtained access to move assets across multiple chains, but it is not yet determined whether private keys, administrator credentials, or other parts of the Coinsbuy infrastructure were compromised. Coinsbuy suspended deposits and withdrawals after the incident and later resumed services.
