Bitcoin security researchers turn their attention to China AI
2026-08-10 17:49:00
According to CoinMeta, as the restrictions imposed by OpenAI increased, Bitcoin security researcher Rob Hamilton stated that he was forced to turn to open-source AI models from China in order to continue searching for vulnerabilities in Bitcoin software. The Bitcoin red-team project involving Hamilton identified 4,962 potential issues within the first 29.8 hours of operation, of which 720 were classified as high or critical severity. Although these findings still need to be verified, they demonstrate security researchers' interest in conducting code audits using cutting-edge AI models. Hamilton pointed out that the loss of access to OpenAI tools limited his ability to investigate the affected codebases, emphasizing the importance of balancing access control with effectiveness in security research.
