Trump Extends Jones Act Shipping Exemption for 90 Days, with Scope Shifting to Energy Transportation

According to CoinMeta, U.S. President Donald Trump has extended the Jones Act shipping exemption for 90 days and adjusted its scope to focus on the transportation of energy products such as gasoline, aviation fuel, crude oil, naphtha, liquefied natural gas, soybean oil, and fertilizers. Before deciding on exemptions for individual voyages, the Pentagon must consult with the U.S. Coast Guard. The White House stated that this exemption helps to ensure that the U.S. military and key industries receive the necessary resources and increases domestic transportation of related products. American shipbuilding companies and some members of Congress believe that the exemption weakens the protection provided by the Jones Act for the domestic shipping industry.
