Australian Central Bank warns of possible further interest rate hikes
2026-08-11 17:12:54
According to CoinMeta, and as reported by Reuters, the Australian Central Bank maintained the cash rate at 4.35% during its meeting on August 11. Governor Michelle Bock stated that if necessary to control inflation, interest rates could be raised again. She noted that the current economic slowdown is in line with expectations, but vigilance is still required, and interest rates may be raised further in the future. The market expected that the interest rate would remain unchanged at this meeting, as inflation data for the second quarter fell short of expectations, and the housing market was also weaker than policy makers anticipated. Bock emphasized that although no interest rate hike is planned at this time, the central bank is prepared to take action if the data supports such a move.
