CTA Fund Sets a Record by Short Selling Global Bonds; U.S. CPI Data Will Determine Profits and Losses
2026-08-12 00:48:42
According to CoinMeta, and as reported by Bloomberg, data from UBS Group shows that the CTA fund tripled its position in low-yield bonds in July compared to two weeks prior. If the upcoming U.S. Consumer Price Index (CPI) and Producer Price Index (PPI) readings stimulate an increase in Treasury prices, CTA trades could face the risk of losses. Strategist N, who issued las Le Roux earlier, stated that before the inflation data is released, for every 1 basis point change in the yield of 10-year Treasuries, the potential profit or loss for CTA is approximately $300 million, representing the largest exposure since UBS began compiling such data in 1990. Currently, the CTA fund has accumulated extreme short positions in the bond market, which significantly increases the market's sensitivity to inflation data. If the data deviates from expectations, it could trigger large-scale position liquidations and market volatility. This data is not only a barometer of the macroeconomy but also a decisive factor in current financial market liquidity and asset pricing.
