According to CoinMeta, on July 29th, the U.S. Department of Defense awarded a seven-year contract worth $53.86 billion to Lockheed Martin (NYSE : LMT) for the production of PAC-3 missile enhancement interceptors, with the total contract value reaching $58.62 billion. This contract is one of the largest single contracts in Lockheed's history and reflects a strong demand for missiles. According to reports, there are currently fewer than 800 Patriot missiles in U.S. inventory, which is a 65% reduction from the pre-war count of 2,330. To meet this demand, Lockheed plans to triple the production capacity of PAC-3 MSE by the end of 2030 and increase the number of employees from 1,200 to 1,850 in Camden, Arkansas. The company also plans to invest $8 to $9 billion before 2030 in facility construction, including new ammunition centers in Alabama and Camden.
