According to CoinMeta, FlightAware voluntarily withdrew its lawsuit against the forecasting platform Kalshi on Tuesday, accusing it of using FlightAware's flight data and trademarks without permission. The reason for withdrawing the lawsuit was not specified in the notice, but it may be related to the reaction on social media and the low retail interest in the aviation sector. According to an article by Fortune, Kalshi decided to suspend flight cancellation contracts in July due to concerns expressed by social media users about malicious actors potentially causing flight cancellations in order to obtain compensation. Kalshi data shows that retail participation in the aviation sector has always been relatively modest. As of August 14th, only 31,412 contracts were traded for open US flight cancellation bets, with a total amount of approximately $1,842.48, and only 1,120 contracts were outstanding. This low liquidity stands in sharp contrast to Kalshi's trading volume of $148 billion this year.
