According to CoinMeta, the New York City Council is investigating the advertising practices of Polymarket, Kalshi, Coinbase, and Gemini's prediction market platform Titan, with a focus on examining the regulatory pressures faced by the prediction market industry. The Mayor of the City Council, Julie Menin, has sent inquiry letters to the aforementioned four platforms as part of a legislative investigation to assess whether existing city laws are sufficient to protect residents from false or deceptive marketing. In addition, the City Council is also studying relevant policies to address issues such as prediction market products potentially inducing users to engage in "forced betting" on event contracts. In a letter to Polymarket, the City Council stated that the investigation not only involves allegations against Polymarket but will also assess the prevalence of similar marketing practices throughout the prediction market industry and the potential social harm they may cause.
