The attackers sent small transactions from malicious addresses that mimicked the intended recipient address of the victim, usually matching the first and last few characters to trick users into making copying and pasting mistakes. Such attacks have now become fully automated, involving identifying targets, generating similar addresses, deploying counterfeit tokens, sending minor transactions, and then laundering money through mixers.
