Wintermute Plans to Invest $1 Billion in the Non-Crypto Market
2026-08-13 00:39:52
According to CoinMeta, and as reported by Bloomberg, crypto market market maker Wintermute plans to invest approximately $1 billion over the next five years in high-frequency trading and artificial intelligence data center infrastructure in order to expand into the stock, commodity, and foreign exchange markets. The company hopes to have non-crypto market revenue account for more than 50% by the end of 2027, compared to just 10% currently. Wintermute expects to fund this expenditure through retained earnings. This plan is proposed against the backdrop of declining crypto activity, with Wintermute's average daily trading volume dropping from $15 billion in 2025 to about $10 billion this year. In the first half of 2026, institutional trading accounted for a record 72% of the spot trading volume on its over-the-counter platform.
