According to CoinMeta, the forecast for social security cost-of-living adjustments (COLA) in 2027 is currently between 3.2% and 3.6%, based on inflation data for July released by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics on Wednesday. Independent analyst Mary Johnson's latest forecast is 3.4%, which is lower than the 3.7% from last month. The increase in social security COLA will exceed this year's rate of 2.8% and is expected to affect benefit payments starting in January 2027. The final COLA estimate will be confirmed after the data for August and September are released, with the Social Security Administration announcing the final forecast on October 14th.
