According to CoinMeta, as revealed by Jacob Creech, the technical executive of the Solana Foundation, the Solana network experienced an infrastructure failure on August 12th, which caused 102 out of 699 validators to stop voting. However, 597 validators continued to vote, allowing blocks and transactions to be processed. The affected validators recovered within 40 minutes. The official status page of Solana shows that there were no mainnet events on August 12th and 13th, and the beta cluster has had a 100% normal operating time over the past 90 days. It was also found that approximately 28.83% of the staked SOL became invalid within about 33 minutes. Solana requires more than two-thirds of the staked amount to participate in transactions for finality, with a related offline threshold of 33.34%. Creech described this incident as a “proof point” of the Solana resilience.
