How to recover funds from ATM crypto fraud
2026-08-13 19:44:53
According to CoinMeta, as reported by Coinpaper, although it is difficult to recover funds from crypto ATM scams, it is not impossible. The chances of recovery depend on the payment method, the whereabouts of the stolen cryptocurrencies, and the speed at which victims report the scam. Crypto transactions are usually irreversible; if Bitcoin, Ethereum, or other cryptocurrencies are sent directly to the scammers' controlled wallets, banks or payment processors cannot cancel the transactions. However, crypto exchanges can sometimes freeze stolen assets that reach their platforms, and law enforcement agencies can track and confiscate the cryptocurrencies. Arizona recently stated that 35 victims of crypto ATM scams successfully recovered a full refund of $171,332 under state law. Victims should investigate their options for recovery before assuming that their crypto payments are permanently lost.
