Brown Brothers Harriman Bank: There is still no clear direction for the pound versus the US dollar; markets await next week's inflation data

According to CoinMeta, an analyst from Brown Brothers Harriman named Elias Haddad pointed out that the direction of the pound against the US dollar is unclear around 1.3500. While the UK's second-quarter and June gross domestic product (GDP) data showed encouraging economic activity, Haddad believes that these figures are unlikely to change the Bank of England's interest rate expectations. In July, CPI will be more important for policy decisions. The details indicate that domestic demand has performed well, with growth in the second quarter mainly driven by total fixed capital formation and household consumption. Government spending was the biggest drag on growth in the second quarter, reflecting declines in the healthcare and education sectors. Haddad believes that the UK's GDP data are unlikely to alter the Bank of England's interest rate forecasts, and that the country's inflationary environment is the central bank's greater concern. The July CPI report will be released next week.
