According to CoinMeta, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman revealed during an event that 20 years ago, he accepted an internship offer from Goldman Sachs due to peer pressure, but ultimately decided to give it up and pursue entrepreneurship instead. He stated that although the internship at Goldman Sachs was considered "cool" at the time, he realized it was not right for him. Altman also mentioned that his startup Loopt received support from Y Combinator in 2005 and was acquired by Green DOT for $43.4 million seven years later. Today, OpenAI has successfully recruited over 100 former investment bankers from Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan Chase, and Morgan Stanley to work on its internal projects.
