According to CoinMeta, on August 11, CFTC utilized its emergency powers for the seventh time in history in order to maintain the operations of Kalshi. Prior to this, the state of New York had filed a lawsuit against it for $36 billion, alleging that the derivative contracts were illegal gambling. This incident has triggered a conflict between federal derivatives laws and state regulations, which may redraw the regulatory boundaries of the crypto market.
