According to CoinMeta, and as reported by Korean media, Bill Gates, co-founder of Microsoft and founder of Next Generation Nuclear Energy Company Terrapower, held a series of meetings on the 14th with Choi Tae-won, chairman of the SK Group, Chung Ki-sun, chairman of the Hyundai Group, and other prominent figures from South Korea's political and business circles. The discussions focused on cooperation in areas such as small modular reactors (SMR) and artificial intelligence (AI) power supply. During his meeting with Choi Tae-won, Gates discussed solutions to the growing power demand brought about by the widespread use of AI data centers, the development direction of next-generation nuclear energy industries, and the possibilities for nuclear energy cooperation between the United States and South Korea. In 2022, SK and SK Innovation jointly invested a total of 250 million US dollars in Terrapower, becoming the company's second-largest shareholders. On the same day, SK Innovation and Terrapower signed a business cooperation agreement for sodium-cooled small modular reactors (Sodium SMR). Gates also met with Chung Ki-sun and Lee Han-woo, CEO of Hyundai Engineering & Construction Company, to discuss the progress of previously signed commercial agreements. In May of this year, the three companies agreed to collaborate to promote the commercialization of sodium-cooled reactors and establish a division of labor structure.
