According to CoinMeta, banks wish to utilize blockchain technology without cryptocurrencies, a trend that Ethereum supporters refer to as the "race to the bottom." Major banks are building private, permissioned chains for tokenization and settlement, which are limited to approved institutions and cannot connect to the cryptocurrency networks. Vivek Raman indicates that these companies are pursuing a blockchain brand while abandoning the openness that gives value to that technology.
