Codex plus Agent plus Luna: As a supervisor, using cheaper models to do work in batches
2026-08-16 14:36:19
According to CoinMeta, OpenAI has added a useful capability to the multiple Agent functions of Codex: SOL can now directly assign tasks to Luna. SOL is responsible for splitting tasks and final checks, while multiple faster and cheaper Luna can execute in parallel. Previously, Codex already supported one Agent calling multiple sub-Agent, but Luna had special restrictions; it could only execute tasks on its own and could not be directly pulled into a team by higher-level SOL such as Agent. This time, this restriction has been lifted, and this division of labor is now explicitly recommended. SOL is suitable for complex, open-ended tasks, while Luna is better suited for clear and repetitive tasks such as searching, organizing, extracting, and categorizing.
