Apple fixes a vulnerability in macOS screen sharing; attackers exploited this vulnerability to implant Monero mining programs

According to CoinMeta, and as reported by The Hacker News, the Dutch National Cybersecurity Center (NCSC) has warned that a serious authentication vulnerability in Apple's macOS screen sharing component (CVE-2026-65400) has been exploited in the wild. Attackers can access exposed Mac systems without any credentials and plant mining software on them. Apple has patched this vulnerability with updates on August 6th, namely macOS Tahoe 26.6.1, Sequoia 15.7.9, and Sonoma 14.8.9. It has been confirmed that attackers have obtained root permissions and deployed mining software.
