Dutch prosecution sells Knaken crypto assets for 2.2 million euros

According to CoinMeta, the Dutch prosecution has sold the remaining cryptocurrencies recovered from the bankrupt crypto platform Knaken, for a amount of 2.2 million euros. This revenue is expected to be used for the bankruptcy proceedings and ultimately to repay creditors. The collapse of Knaken was made public in early June 2026, and customers were unable to access their accounts and balances. The platform was shut down due to its failure to obtain the regulatory authorization required to continue serving Dutch customers. The Dutch Financial Markets Authority (AFM) alerted the prosecution, which then launched a criminal investigation. The prosecution conducted searches at locations related to Knaken and seized electronic equipment as well as controlled assets. By the end of June, the prosecution had applied to the court to declare the company bankrupt on the grounds that approximately 7 million euros of customer funds were missing. On June 30, the prosecution officially filed for bankruptcy, and the Rotterdam District Court approved it on July 16, determining that there was a significant shortfall in customer funds. The court ruled that the assets of Knaken were not sufficient to fully repay the customers. This incident affected about 30,000 customers.
