Ethereum developers submit EIP-12188 proposal, suggesting to reduce the block retention window at the consensus layer

According to CoinMeta, Ethereum developer kevaundray submitted proposal EIP-12188 on GitHub, suggesting a reduction in the retention window for consensus layer blocks to alleviate storage pressure on nodes. The proposal is currently in the public review phase and has already received support from some Ethereum client developers. Developer dapplion expressed support for this idea, and lighthouse, a contributor to the michaelsproul client, believes that this adjustment will not cause significant issues for the operation of lighthouse. The proposal indicates that reducing the retention time for historical consensus layer blocks can optimize the use of node resources. During discussions, it was mentioned that trimming historical data at the execution layer may affect some long-running nodes' ability to provide old block data, but developers believe that this will not threaten network security or the normal operation of nodes. As of now, the proposal EIP-12188 has not yet been merged.
