Blockchain Association Calls on SEC to Revoke Two Trading Rules
2026-08-18 12:20:34
According to CoinMeta, the Blockchain Association is calling on the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to repeal two provisions of the National Market System Rules, arguing that rules established for traditional stock exchanges may limit the development of the tokenized securities market. The association released a comment letter on August 18 supporting the repeal of Rule 611 and Rule 610(e). Rule 611, commonly known as the Order Protection Rule, is intended to prevent trading venues from executing trades at prices lower than those displayed elsewhere for protection. Rule 610(e) relates to locking and crossing quotes. The Blockchain Association stated that trading systems have become faster, more automated, and more interconnected since the rules were established, and believes that regulation should allow companies to take these differences into consideration when evaluating executions.
