Monad offers $60 million to repurchase and lock up MON; why do most investors refuse?

According to CoinMeta, the Monad Foundation has completed a liquidity repurchase program for a portion of the MON tokens held by early investors, with a maximum repurchase amount of 60 million US dollars. The program allowed eligible holders to sell their tokens to the foundation before they became transferable, and the price reflected a discount based on the remaining duration of the four-year lock-up period. Investors had the option to receive cash immediately at a discounted rate or to continue holding the MON until the original restrictions were lifted. The foundation stated in its announcement that nearly all contacted holders refused to participate. Monad did not disclose the identities of the participating investors, the number of people contacted, or the final quantity of MON purchased. The tokens obtained through this program will not enter circulation and will still maintain their original lock-up restrictions. The total amount of locked tokens held by investors is approximately 19.7 billion MON, which represents 19.7% of the initial supply. This program did not change the original unlocking schedule, and future unlocks for investors will still be major supply events.
