According to CoinMeta, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) proposed new crypto asset registration exemption rules at a press conference on August 18th, which include an annual exemption limit of $75 million. Under the new framework, qualified issuers can offer crypto investment contracts worth up to $5 million over a period of four years without having to go through the standard registration process under the Securities Act of 1933. A second exemption allows for the offering of investment contracts worth up to $75 million within any 12-month period. These exemptions will provide smaller projects with a way to raise funds while still needing to comply with the conditions of the framework, according to SEC. The proposal is not yet final, and the public will have 60 days to comment on it.
