According to CoinMeta, French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian stated on social media on the 18th that France would expel two Iranian diplomats from France in response to the previous detention and interrogation of two French diplomats by Iranian security forces. Le Drian mentioned that Iranian security personnel detained and questioned two French embassy staff members for several hours the evening before, violating their diplomatic immunity. He expressed to Iran's Foreign Minister that such behavior was "extremely serious and unacceptable" and that "there will be consequences." On the same day, the Iranian Foreign Ministry issued a statement saying that due to the violation of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations by the two French diplomats, they were designated as "unwelcome persons" and prohibited from entering Iran.
