Nvidia: $105 billion bet on data centers in Ohio
2026-08-19 21:11:26
According to CoinMeta, Nvidia (Nasdaq: NVDA) agreed on August 17th to provide a guarantee of up to $105 billion for a large data center being developed by SB Energy, a subsidiary of SoftBank, in Pick County, Ohio. The data center has a capacity of up to 8 gigawatts, with the first phase of 800 megawatts expected to be online in 2028. OpenAI has signed a 20-year lease for the site. Nvidia will also invest $1.5 billion directly in SB Energy and become the exclusive chip supplier for the facility. This move is the latest example of Nvidia financing its own chip operation infrastructure, although such practices have drawn increasing scrutiny. Nvidia's revenue growth is expected to accelerate to 97% this quarter, compared to 85% in the previous quarter.
