According to CoinMeta, Citibank's team of foreign exchange strategists has shifted to a bearish outlook on the short-term trend of the US dollar, as the market is preparing for a more dovish Federal Reserve, the mid-term elections in the United States, and the US Treasury Department's further expansion of the scale of treasury bond repurchases. Citibank has lowered its forecast for the US Dollar Index over the next three months from 102.12 to 98.34. Citibank pointed out that the recent measures taken by US Treasury Secretary Yellen to lower long-term borrowing costs by expanding the repurchase scale of 10- to 30-year US treasury bonds could come at a cost to the dollar. After the US Dollar Index fell to its lowest level since May on Wednesday, it remained relatively stable around 98.9 on Thursday. The Citibank team stated that their view on the dollar has been "relatively neutral" in recent months, but they have warned that the risks facing the dollar may increase in the coming months.
