According to CoinMeta, a U.S.-based consortium supported by the government is in negotiations to invest over $500 million in a large nickel mine project in Tanzania. As the Trump administration intensifies its efforts to secure supplies of critical metals, the United States is actively promoting the deployment of related strategic resources. Previously, it was reported that lifezone and metals had selected orion and cmc as their preferred equity partners to jointly develop the Kabanga nickel mine project in Tanzania. The consortium was established in October and received sovereign funding support from the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation ( DFC ) as well as from Abu Dhabi's imad and holding. Sources familiar with the matter revealed that the deal currently being finalized involves orion and cmc acquiring a portion of the equity in kabanga, a subsidiary of lifezone responsible for the project, for an amount ranging from $500 million to $600 million.
