According to CoinMeta, Iranian officials plan to attack Gulf oil export facilities in an attempt to drive up gasoline prices in the United States, with the aim of affecting the support rate of Trump's party in the midterms. The targets of the attacks include Saudi Arabia's Yanbu pipeline and the UAE's Fujairah oil terminals, which together process about 5.5 million barrels of oil per day. Iranian officials claim that if the transportation via the shadow fleet through the Strait of Hormuz is cut off, there will be a reduction in alternative transportation capacity of about 5 million barrels of oil per day. With Brent crude oil prices approaching $93 per barrel, a strike on Yanbu or Fujairah would be seen by traders as a more severe supply shock than previous interruptions.
