Institution: U.S. Treasury repurchases spark policy disagreements; markets wary of fiscal maneuvers interfering with the Fed
2026-08-24 15:01:44
According to CoinMeta, UBS strategist Ipek Ozkardeskaya stated that the U.S. Treasury Department’s efforts to lower interest rates by purchasing bonds may prevent the market from fully accounting for inflation and fiscal risks, and may also limit the market’s ability to respond adequately to the Federal Reserve’s policy decisions. This could increase the difficulty for the Fed to bring inflation back down to near its 2% target, which is precisely what Fed Chairman Jerome Powell may wish to avoid. Ozkardeskaya added that this week’s Jackson Hole Symposium could further clarify how the Fed will integrate with the government’s policy plans.
